Questions About Bathtub or Countertop Refinishing?

Having worked in and around the Sacramento area for nearly ten years, we’ve been asked a lot of questions. What is refinishing, re-glazing, or glazing?

Refinishing, re-glazing, glazing, resurfacing, re-coating are different ways to say the same thing. There are multiple steps to professional refinishing. It is the process of refreshing the surface to a like-new condition using professional-grade, high-quality paint.

What surfaces can you refinish?

Our method works on most materials used on bathtubs, sinks, and countertops. This includes cast iron, ceramic tile, steel, fiberglass, Formica, marble, and wood.

Can you make repairs to surfaces?

We make repairs to the bathtub or countertop surface as a part of the refinishing process. While some very minor repairs are included, excessive repairs will be quoted after the site visit.

How long will my new finish last?

The life of a refinished bathtub is very similar to a brand-new bathtub. With proper care and cleaning, our system should provide a durable, new-looking bathtub or countertop surface for many years.  Our team will provide you with simple instructions to properly care for your refinished surfaces to keep it looking brand new. Isn’t it cheaper to buy a new bathtub?

Nationwide, the average bathtub replacement cost is around $3,000; after totaling purchase, removal, and replacement of the tub, plumbing, flooring, drywall and tub surround. Also, the replacement tub requires days, even weeks to install. Home Illusions can save you time and money every step of the way.

Can I refinish a surface that has been refinished before?

It takes a little longer because we need to completely remove all of the previous paint so the new product adheres to the surface properly, but we are able to refinish previously refinished surfaces.

Do you offer a warranty?

We offer a three-year warranty on residential and commercial refinishing for bathtub, shower tile, fiberglass, and countertops. The warranty covers workmanship and product failures. How long does the process take?

The refinishing process takes 4-6 hours to complete a standard bathtub and 3-5 hours for a full kitchen countertop.

At the time of scheduling, you will be given a start time and an estimated time to complete.

To insure the proper dry time, you should wait an additional 24 hours for bathtubs and 48 hours for counter tops before using the new surface.

Do you remove fixtures or other hardware?

Home Illusions technicians will cover already installed fixtures.

Any plumbing issues (leaks, broken hardware, etc.) should be repaired before the surface is refinished.

Is there an odor or smell?

While we make every effort to ventilate the area we are working on, there may be some residual odor for a few hours after we are done. We recommend leaving windows open for four hours after we leave the property to allow any smells to dissipate.

Can I use the bathtub before you arrive?

You are able to use the bathtub/shower. The tub surface does not need to be dry when our technicians arrive.

Do you need to make an in-person visit to give me an estimate?

We prefer to do an in-person visit so we can look at the project ahead of time to make sure we have the complete scope. It is often difficult to see the surface details in pictures or videos.

If we are unable to do an in-person site visit prior to the start of the job, Home Illusions reserves the right to make changes to the quote if there are any conditions that are not included in the information provided in advance.
